Abstract

The motive behind the presentation of this brief communication was
provided by G. Barbera’s Elementi italo-siculo-veneziano-genovesi nel linguaggio
arabo e turco, Beirut 1940. The author of this book researches the
romance elements in the Turkish language without, however, adequately
examining the likelihood that Greek might have served as an intermediary
in this process.
The author of this communication proves that certain of the romance,
according to Barbera, elements in Turkish are either of Greek origin or are,
indeed, of Italian origin but have been introduced into Turkish via the intermediary
of Greek forms.
