Abstract
The revolt of April 1876 was the Bulgárián people’s best organised effort
to throw off the Ottoman yoke. After the failure of the revoit, many revolutionaries
were arrested and exiled to various parts of the Ottoman Empire including
Cyprus.
On the basis of the memoirs of the revolutionary T. Shabanov, who was
exiled to Cyprus, an account is given of the living conditions of the Bulgárián
revolutionaries in the castle of Nicosia and also of the Cypriote’ friendly
feelings towards them.
