The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions and practices of teachers regarding the pedagogical benefit of a field trip to the museum. The research sample consisted of active Primary and Secondary Education teachers. Quantitative research methodology was applied for data collection using an improvised questionnaire. The educational visit to the museum was investigated in terms of the goals and strategies followed, the reasons influencing teachers’ decisions to organise it and any differences in teachers’ perceptions depending on their demographic and professional characteristics. The main purpose of the visit to the museum was to provide students with a useful learning experience. According to the results, the strategies applied before, during and after the end of the school visit to the museum refer to the typical teaching practices followed in the context of the classroom. The high cost of the visit and parental refusal emerged as the main inhibiting factors. This paper aims to enhance the connection between school and museum and to improve the effectiveness of educational school trips.
