Abstract

The study examined the effect of health aid on HIV prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa
(SSA) using data on 46 countries from 2000-2019 analysed with system-GMM due to
its appropriateness. Results confirmed persistence in HIV prevalence and showed
that health aid significantly reduced HIV prevalence in SSA. Furthermore, domestic
health expenditure, education and government effectiveness significantly reduced
the scourge in SSA. All post-estimation diagnoses indicated that the estimated
model was valid and robust. Increased domestic health expenditure to complement
health aid, determination to encourage school enrolment and efforts to improve
government service delivery, especially in the health sector, are recommended.
