Abstract

The mountainous areas of the Peloponnese are of considerable importance for the Region of Peloponnese, not only for spatial planning but also for development reasons. Using measures of regional inequalities, certain basic conclusions can be deducted concerning the sectoral specialization of the mountainous areas of the micro-regions studied. According to the empirical results, the area examined exhibits a weakness in manufacturing, commerce and tourism, while it is characterized by a strong orientation towards the primary sector, electricity and water supply, construction and the remaining activities of the tertiary sector.
