Abstract

This article discusses the development of Science Parks (S.P.) with respect to contemporary industrial restructuring and the rise of new industrial spaces in peripheral regions. The first part focuses on Science Park development in Europe and on the different types of parks, defined according to their role in industrial restructuring. The second part examines the links between Science Parks and postfordist industries, as well as the institutional mechanisms which the parks provide for technology transfer. The third part examines the contribution of Science Parks in the peripheral neo-industrialisation, their role in spin-offs and the modernisation of local productive systems.
