Abstract

The outbreak of the pandemic of Covid-19 in 2020 has caused millions of contaminations worldwide that led in certain cases to severe diseases or even to loss of lives, constituting a real threat for public health. In that context, the development of the first vaccines against Covid-19 has raised the issue of compulsory vaccination. Within the framework of the European Union, Member States are competent to define their policy in the health sector and to provide health services while actions taken by the Union are complementary to the relevant national policies according to article 168 of the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union. Therefore, the vaccination policy within the Union falls under the competence of the different Member States which provide their own regulations with regard to vaccinations.
