It may be considered an unorthodox approach to persist in ethnocentric beliefs that perceive and interpret national educational policy as operating independently of the international political context, without reference points or correlations with supranational and transnational organizations involved in education and the formulation of educational policies in each country. This article examines the historical trajectory and legislative developments concerning the evaluation of teachers in Greece, highlighting the “points of contention” between national policies and European directives. From the 1980s to the present, it analyses the continuous oscillation between legislative initiatives and resistance from educational institutions and trade unions. Additionally, it underscores the failure to implement evaluation policies, the influence of the clientelist political system, and the necessity for a coherent and strategic approach to ensuring the quality of Greek education.

Key-words: teacher evaluation, educational policy, legislative reforms, political resistance.
