Περίληψη

Research has shown that, nowadays, teachers tend to focus almost exclusively on students’ countable academic achievements and seem to neglect children’s socio-emotional development. Aim of the present paper is to define the concept of spirituality in relation to students’ holistic development, that is, the well-rounded development of their psycho-physiological abilities, as proposed by the official legislation of Education. For this purpose, we use Mezirow’s Transformational Learning theory and Post-formal Thinking theory as our basic theoretical tools to define the dimensions and meaning of spirituality and analyze the positive impact that the development of self-perception has on children. Last but not least, we propose the design of a potential teacher training program and the development of relevant measures aiming to cultivate children’s spirituality
