From the study of contemporary literature, it is found that in a period of educational change, school principals are called upon to turn their schools into learning communities. However, it is less well known how they can shape and implement practices that foster the development of appropriate learning conditions. In this article, the theory is enriched by empirical data derived from a case study on how to manage the change of curricula in the Cypriot education system by a school principal. Observation, interview, informal discussion, study of forms, focus groups and research diary were used as data collection tools. The results have prompted new practices and strategies to be implemented at the school unit on the initiative of the principal. Conclusions have led to the acknowledgement of a strong need to prepare school leaders to organize the school's internal policy in a period of educational change.
