Περίληψη

This review article presents the procedures, which support orthographic processing acquisition, and suggests a variety of educational activities for developing orthographically correct spelling. First, orthographic processing and orthographic lexicon are explained and an interpretation model is presented. Also, the linguistic features of Greek orthographic system are analyzed, and the contribution of phonological and morphological awareness in orthographic development is examined. Furthermore, the article presents a classification scale of spelling mistakes in Greek speaking students. Finally, educational activities and practices that can be used by preschool and primary teachers for the development of orthographically correct spelling are presented.
