Abstract


The teacher is one of the most important factors of learning. The new era in teaching requires teachers to have multiple and demanding roles. Concerning curriculum, the teacher is the most significant agent of curriculum implementation. Trying out new ideas and methods in the classroom depend on the teachers’ ability to adjust to new thinking. Teaching is an ongoing process and it does not entail only obtaining a university degree. The teachers’ work is influenced by a lot of factors which should be considered when trying to enhance the teachers’ professional identity and development. This article argues that teachers in order to be able to respond effectively to their demanding task they should be supported with effective training and the provision of satisfactory working conditions and teaching facilities.
