Abstract
This paper deals with an attempt to investigate factors that motivate in the active participation of some secondary teachers in environmental education. Through a questionnaire and some interviews, their concept of environmental education, as well as their perception about the relation of EE and schooling has been assessed. Also through the same questionnaire they were asked to say what kind of factors had motivated them to become involved in EE. From the analysis of the data it is evident that they do have a good grasp of the concept of EE, and also that they do have a positive attitude to the field. It was also found that the main factor that motivates them to get involved in EE, despite the difficulties they face, is the educationally innovative character of EE and their dissatisfaction with the educational system.
