Abstract

The percentage share of animal production in the Greek primary sector's gross value, has been stabilized at 30% during the postwar period. The present article aims to determine particular spatial and structural factors, which have influenced and possibly continue to influence the animal production and maintain its share unchanged in relatively low level, because of their intertemporal stability. According to the analysis of the economic and spatial data at prefecture level, with the use of linear functions, the land morphology and the structure of crop production determines the animal production' s development considerably. The impact of the above spatial and structural factors is realized through the competitive linkage between crop and animal production for land use.
