Abstract

A theory is presented to assist the formulation and implementation of regional policy based on the development of region-specific characteristics. The paper then classifies the Greek regions on a region-specific map based on developmental, social, economic and income differentials. This classification is useful because it provides information about the relative attractiveness to consumers and producers of the total bundle of developmental, social and other attributes indigenous to each region. It also assists European policy makers to formulate the best suited regional and developmental policies in the 10 regions of Greece.
