Abstract

This article arms at a critical presentation of methods that define and delimit local labour markets and of the advantages /disadvantages these methods present. It also aims at the presentation of the problems that tend to appear in the attempt of their theoretical foundation and empirical application. During the last decades, changes in labour market policies, characterized by the abandonment of Keynesian macro-policies in favour of micro-economic interventions, have contributed in making local labour markets delimitation a critical issue for the effectiveness of the implemented relevant policies. A1 the same time, as the on going empirical delimitation of the local labour markets does not follow the theoretical analysis of the concept and of its functions, a series of problems tend to appear. It is in the discussion of these problems that this article aims to contribute.
