Περίληψη

The present paper deals with the new trends in Science Education as a result of various transformations that took place in the course of the world social history. The work is divided into four parts. In the first part there is a brief description of the various historical models of science teaching. These models are associated with the social conditions that shaped them. The second part offers a detailed description of the new trends in Science Education, as they manifest themselves in the social context of the present. The third pert contains certain proposals concerning the content of the studies in Science Education as well as the approach to them if we set as our chief objective to enable Science Education to keep up with these new trends. Finally in the fourth part the article focuses on the present situation in the Greek schools as far as Science Education is concerned. Some proposals for reforms in the structure of Science Education are put forward, reforms which constitute a sine qua non given the universal importance of Science Education in the era of Technology and the Challenges it offers to the present as well as the future generations.
