Περίληψη

The Programmes of Study of the newly established Departments of Pri¬mary Education, DPE, are critically reviewed and compared particularly with aspect to Mathematics. It comes out that there exist substantial differences with aspect to the total number of credits required, the proportion of compulsory and elective subjects, and the emphasis put on the various areas. The credits required on Mathematics, content and teaching seems to be below the standards of other countries. Since the input student population has generally little knowledge and love for the subject, the mathematical preparation of future teachers leaves much to be desired. It is proposed that a national scale conference should study the problem in an effort to produce tentative directives for the delineation of the programmes, rationalize the distribution of compulsory subject-units, doing «justice» for content courses, particularly for Mathematics, and to pave the way for the introduction of specialization schemes.
