Περίληψη

This study explores the behavior patterns and problems and the school performance of elementary and secondary school students, based on teachers' evaluations. Factor are identified which influence the behavior and achieveme¬nt of the students in school. The sample consisted of 1041 elementary school students (mean age: 11.4) and 862 secondary school students (mean age: 14.3) in public schools in northern Greece. Teachers were asked to fill out a behavior rating for every student in their class and to evaluate their school performance. Achievement data on language, history and math were also obtained. The teacher rating scale used in the study and its psychometric features are prese¬nted. Teachers' evaluations of students'' behavior showed significant differences with respect to the following factors: students' gender and age, grade in school, achievement, teachers' gender and size of the place (based on population) where the school is located. Students were found to experience additional difficulties in behavior and school achievement when in transition from elementary school to junior high school (Gymnasio) and then to high school (Lykio).
