Περίληψη

The present paper deals with the development of a new, research based, course of training pre-service primary teachers in science education. The following factors have been taken into account in shaping the course: The urgent need for scientific literacy. Research evidence concerning children's learning of science. Research evidence concerning the role of the laboratory in learning science. Novel views concerning the construction of scientific concepts. Views and research evidence concerning teachers' training in science .Students' background in science. It is suggested that a course of teacher training in sciences should involve two inseparable interconnected stages, one concerning teachers' science and another concerning the teaching of sciences to children. The main idea is that teaching science to pupils and to teachers should take into account their misconceptions. The specific aims of the two stages are set out and also the process of the implementation of the course. Finally the first results of course evaluation are presented.
