Περίληψη

This article introduces a theoretical and research account of the development of peer relationships in the kindergarten classroom. The theoretical approach is concerned with the choice of characteristics for the taxonomy of relationships as presented by other researchers in the field of interpersonal relationships such as equality and reciprocity. The research approach presents a proposed taxonomy of relationships based on ethnographic observations of peer interactions and friendship relations in the natural setting in which they occur (school classroom). Peer relationships are divided in five main types which are characteristic of the qualities and the development of relationships. These types are: a) reciprocal-equal relationships, b) reciprocal-unequal relationships, c) unilateral relationships, d) reciprocal momentary relationships and e) loners. Findings are discussed according to their theoretical and methodological implications.
