Περίληψη

The present study investigates the structure of the self-concept in Greek elementary and junior high school children by adopting a multi-dimensional approach to the self-concept, which is here viewed as a compound of two elements: one descriptive, the self-image or self-picture, and one evaluative, the self-esteem or global self-worth. In particular, our study identifies the distinct domains composing the children's profile of self-perceptions, as well as the domains of perceived competence which dominate as determinants of a child's sense of global self-worth. Further, the study explores the effect of specific sociodemographic factors on the various facets of children's self-concept.
