Περίληψη

There is a lot of discussion about the way that we view disability and how it influences educational practices. Nevertheless there is little analysis which tries to connect the debate of disability with certain implications for special education. In this paper first I examine some theoretical models of disability including an individual or medical model, a social model and sub models such as social creation-ism, social constructionist and a post" structuralistic approach. An alternative, holistic ecological approach is suggested as more appropriate. Then we turn to examine the implications for special education and in particular, implications for professional role and parental collaboration, educational practices such as placement, staff and curriculum, and educational research.
