Περίληψη

The aim of the present study was an initial investigation of stress in primary school teachers. The study also sought to determine whether the amount and nature of stress experienced by teachers is related to certain personal and demographic variables. The
It was found that only a relatively small percentage of teachers stated that they experience a high level of stress, while most of them obtained moderate and low mean stress scores. From the independent variables only gender and the area where the school is situated seem to influence stress levels. Female teachers reported higher levels of general stress, and so did teachers working in rural areas. Significant negative correlations were found between stress, self-esteem, Personal and Interpersonal Perceived Control. Overall, the results indicate that personality dimensions appeal to contribute more to stress levels that do the variables of either age or gender.
