Parents' involvement has been described as essential for the effectiveness of any mainstreaming process. This research attempts to investigate the functioning of inclusive classes from parents' point of view. Forty-seven mothers of children attending such classes were interviewed, in order to explore how their children were treated and how they themselves were involved. The findings suggest that although mothers make a positive evaluation of the educational contest of mainstreaming, the inclusive provisions do not seem to meet the overall needs of the child and of the family. Professionals-parents partnership is not fulfilled and the interdisciplinary approach stays incomplete.
