Περίληψη

Asperger syndrome was only officially recognized as a disorder in 1994 when it was included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association. Therefore, it is not surprising that little research has been conducted on appropriate and effective treatments of this unique population. Educational interventions for children with Asperger were designed as these children were autistic. However, it is clear in the research literature that children with Asperger have different characteristics and different needs from children with autism. This paper presents the use of a small structured story intervention to improve the skills of writing a short essay by a child with Asperger Syndrome. Presenting problems, history and assessment of the child are analyzed, the intervention program is explained and the results of this intervention are described. Finally, an evaluation of the program, implications for intervention and recommendations for practitioners are included.
