Περίληψη

The major role of textbooks is their function as means of teaching. Usually they are used by teachers and students in class and at burnt for the achievement of the targets of teaching and learning. The introduction of the Comprehensive Lyceum in Cyprus along with the parallel revision of the Curricula and the creation of special teaching classes gave emphasis on innovations for the purpose of independent learning with the acting impli¬cation of student in the building of knowledge. Within this context, the eval¬uation of textbooks is considered important especially when they have to contribute to new aims and orientations of the education. The evaluation concerns the Cyprus History textbook for the first grade of Lyceum regard¬ing the form, the content, the language, the structure, the activities, meth¬ods and instructional strategies suggested. The evaluation is based on peda¬gogical, scientific, curricular criteria.
