Περίληψη

The purpose of this study was to examine the differences among pupils of the elementary school, with different body mass index as to: a) their sedentary daily habits (TV watching, PC usage), b) their participa¬tion in mild, moderate and strenuous exercise and c) their participation in physical activity. In this study participated 362 boys and 413 girls. Students were divided according to their body mass index, to those with: a) normal BMI, b) overweight children, c) obese children. 183 and 26 of those pupils were categorized as overweight and obese accordingly. The overweight and obese pupils participate less in moderate and strenuous exercise, they adopt more sedentary habits as many hours of TV watch¬ing and PC usage and they don’t participate in after school physical activ¬ity. The results of this study imply the need of necessary school interven¬tions in the late primary school classes, in order to create positive behav¬iors for the participation in physical activity and the avoidance of the sedentary behaviors.
