Περίληψη

The article constitutes a part of the theoretical frame of a project con¬cerning the interaction of mathematic education with the school failure in the islander region of Dodecanese. The study of factors that contribute in the failure, as well as the development of the criteria for the selection of variables’ aiming to ameliorative actions is the aim of this project.
In the particular article the argumentation is focused in two fundamental issues. The first one concerns the statement that student’s or even his fami¬ly’s necessary movements -from city to city and mainly from island to island- for the completion of his school route, constitute an important fac¬tor of interpretation as far as the phenomenon of school failure is con¬cerned. The second issue is related to the effort needed for the construction of a model that can depict the variety of school routes.
The treatment of the above issues entails the existence of a great variety of school routes. The majority of them -which are hard enough- might con¬stitute a factor for the interpretation of school failure phenomenon since are related to the student’s and his family’s decision regarding the completion or not of his school duties. Therefore, the taking of the required welfare measures is deemed to be of high importance for the balance of the above mentioned factor.
