The purpose of the study was the application and the evaluation of a school health education intervention program, aiming at attitude improvement towards physical activity participation and at the adoption of healthy nutritional habits. The school based intervention program lasted ten weeks and was applied to 87 children in the 5th and 6th grade of primary school. The study was held through questionnaires and all scales had acceptable levels of internal consistency. The results indicated that, after the intervention program, the pupils had more positive attitudes towards healthy eating and scored significantly higher in their participation in mild and moderate physical activity. Within the limitations of the study, the data show that school health education programs can help pupils establish lifelong healthy habits. Promoting healthy habits and physical activity behaviors during childhood may prevents some of the diseases later in life and improve quality of life.
