Περίληψη

Due to rapid social, economic and environmental changes, families play a sig¬nificant role within the framework of Education for Sustainable Development. The role of parents is particularly important and decisive during children’s de¬velopment. The aim of this paper is to explore those attitudes of the parents that help their children develop pro-environmental attitudes. Results indicate that there is a common agreement on issues such as: i) the fact that the protec¬tion of environment improves the quality of life and ii) environmental sensi¬tivity constitutes a factor of significant importance for shaping the children’s character. In addition, five clusters of parents attitudes are emerging. Although there are parents that try to help their children establish a pro-environmental value system and attitudes by deliberate and systematic pedagogical actions or their daily choices, this practice does not hold for the majority of the parents. Thus, we can argue that the parents’ activities do not help their children to develop stale pro-environmental attitudes to a great extent.
