Περίληψη

The present study consists of two parts. In the first part, the theoretical, con¬siderable research evidence is presented which suggests that both structural and functional characteristics of the family influence children’s cognitive, academic and social development. In the second part, the empirical, the aims of the research, the methodology, the manufacture of the researching instru¬ments, the selection of the sample (N=767), the collection and the results of the research are being presented. The most important result is that the level of education, the profession and the socioeconomic status of the father and mother seem to influence their attitude and behaviour towards the educa¬tional and academic development of their children.
