Although the Quality of Life (QL) of individuals with disabilities (IDs) has been extensively studied, citizens’ opinions about the improvement of this QL have not studied so far. The purpose of the present study is to map citi¬zens’ recommendations for the improvement of IDs’ QL. Two hundred and ninety seven participants, all aged above 18 years replied to a specific ques¬tion regarding this matter.
Data analysis showed that citizens suggest bias reduction and acceptance of the disabled individuals by the society, citizens’ and various governmental bodies’ sensitization and awareness raising, as well as the improvement of individuals’ life conditions as the most important ways of improving their QL.
The study unfolds citizens’ opinions about the determinants of IDs’ QL; provides important information about the understanding of the inclusion of IDs in the society, and discusses the prerequisites which will limit social dis¬crimination and marginalization.
