Περίληψη

In this paper we present an implementation of the cooperative jigsaw method for teaching sound phenomena. Fourteen primary student teachers participat¬ing in the research were divided into four “expert groups” since the topic of sound phenomena is divided into four subtopics: production, propagation, reflection and absorption of sound waves. The “expert groups” broke apart, and the students moved into “home groups” consisting of members from the other “expert groups”. Within the “home groups” each student presents to the schoolmates her or his specific subtopic. The purpose of this work is to study the effects of the jigsaw method on students’ learning of the sound phenomena as well as to obtain their teaching conceptions about the method. Written notes and recording during the lesson, two case study interviews and a questionnaire were used in order to collect the data. The results indicated that the implementation of the jigsaw method in primary student teachers was successful and led to sufficient learning of the subject. Furthermore, student’s conceptions about the process were mostly positive.
