An effective practicum model of student-teachers requires the guidance and mentoring from experienced teachers and educators. In a number of coun¬tries, during practicum, student teachers are assigned to a university supervi¬sor and a university professor, all of whom form a supervisory triad. How¬ever, in the Greek educational system, the role of the supervisor is carried out by school teachers who are assigned by the ministry of education to the faculties of education. The current study aims at investigating the problems and the deficiencies regarding the "institution" of the teachers who are as¬signed as supervisors to the pedagogical departments. The participants were 14 kindergarten teachers assigned as supervisors at the Practicum of the
Early Education Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Data were collected through a questionnaire and two separate focus group inter¬views. The results showed a wide range of institutional, organizational and professional problems and contradictions regarding the role of the assigned teachers as supervisors of student-teachers.
