Περίληψη

Reference groups theory consists in examining the impact that certain social groups have in forming the individual self. A brief analysis of the theory is given confronting both functionalists and symbolic interactionists. Emphasis is placed on the correlation of role theory and reference groups theory. An empirical study of 720 teachers follows on the impact that family, students and the principals have on the formation of the teacher role.
