Περίληψη

The difficulties that immigrant students face within the Greek school curriculum are often due to visible or latent difficulties in their second language. The aim of this paper is to present the results of a survey carried out during the school year 2011/2012 in 103 Greek state primary and secondary schools where ‘Reception Classes’ operate parallel to mainstream classes. Taking into consideration the difficulties immigrant students face within the Greek school curriculum, the survey aimed to elicit data regarding (a) the school subjects which pose the most important difficulties to immigrant learners, (b) the specific language difficulties in various school subjects students are confronted with, (c) the reasons to which teachers attribute these difficulties, (d) the ways in which teachers deal with them, etc. The paper focuses on the results of this research, as well as on their implications for the improvement of learning outcomes among immigrant students.
