Περίληψη

This study attempts to explore the views of Primary and Secondary school teachers on necessity of introducing the institution of newly appointed mentor teacher in Greek public school. The sample consisted of 250 teachers, 114 of the Primary education and 136 of the Secondary education, and a questionnaire was selected as a data collection tool. The results showed that the respondents, the majority of them (at a rate of 69,1%) consider necessary the institution of the newly appointed mentor teacher, sketching the profile of an effective mentor as the educated teacher in modern teaching and pedagogy with extensive experience in the classroom, interpersonal skills and enlarged support role acting in a framework of equality of value with the newly appointed mentor teacher and without evaluating him.
