This research investigates the teachers’ views on the subjects they need to be trained and the factors which facilitate or not their participation in lifelong professional development. The quantitative survey was conducted among secondary teachers, using the adjusted TALIS (2013) questionnaire. As teacher report, they have a high need for training in vocational guidance and student counseling, teaching in a multicultural setting, teaching students with special needs, technology, as well as approaches to individualized learning. Teachers prefer engaging themselves in courses and formally structured workshops as well as sample teaching based on ICT. Barriers to teachers’ participation in professional development are the lack of incentives and time. Finally, teacher mobility and professional satisfaction were studied as professional development factors. One third of teachers have travelled abroad, accompanying students, while most teachers are satisfied with their job, as they consider it of great value for the society.
