Περίληψη

The purpose of this study is to examine the representations of the two sexes in the current school textbooks of the 1st and 2nd grade classes introduced in Primary School since 2006. Αt this age, children have not fully formed a critical way of thinking in order to understand the implicit and latent messages regarding the roles of the two sexes. Quantitative content analysis was implied for this research, allowing the examination of both textual and pictorial material. The results highlight that, despite of the positive changes and efforts in promoting gender equality, the female presence is not equal to the male one as far as the leading and secondary characters and the famous personalities concerns, as well as their respective activities. Furthermore, both the linguistic sexism and the illustration continue to be not in favor of the female gender.
