Περίληψη

The purpose of this paper is to analyze and highlight the educational relevance of Hymes communication theory for the elementary school classroom, as well as to describe the teacher’s communication role in it. The introductory part of the text emphasizes the importance of the social context in which the speech is expressed, as being a key component of the communication process. The work continues with the presentation of Hymes’ views, while, immediately afterwards, the way in which the present communication model finds its expression in the classroom is analyzed, fully interpreting the daily communication and life in the classroom. Then, the description of the teacher’s communication role in the classroom is made, while, selectively, some concluding findings and remarks are presented regarding the scientific value of cultivating the communication and social skills of the teacher
