Περίληψη

The paper that follows is built on two levels. First comes the level of general debate and then that of practical choices. At the first level, I present an ideological conflict which has dominated special education in the international and particularly the Anglo-saxon world for over SO years now. The conflict is between those who speak of integration of children with special needs in the mainstream school, and those who share a dream of inclusive schooling. This part also serves as a theoretical background to the paper. On the second level. I discuss how this conflict is transported to Cypriot reality influencing both educational policy planning and initial teacher training in Cyprus. The University of Cyprus finds itself in front of the dilemma, faced with the responsibility of having to evaluate the various philosophies and take the best possible decision for Cypriot
