Περίληψη

In this paper we examine some basic concepts of the linguistic field of phonetics and phonology in their application in language teaching as this is reflected across the Curricula for Greek language teaching in the Primary and Secondary national education between 1977 and 2003. The concepts that are attended here are: the speech sounds (φθόγγοι), the phonemes (φωνήματα), the phonolοgical oppositions (φωνολογικές αντιθέσεις), the phonological system (φωνολογικό σύστημα), the phonetic /phonological processes (φωνητικές/φωνολογικές διαδικασίες), the phonographemic correspondences (φωνογραφημικές αντιστοιχίσεις). The research on the National Curricula denotes that, in general, they don’t take advantage of the phonetic/phonological concepts for the effectiveness of language teaching. And in the cases that phonological concepts are cited, they are not developed indeed.

In the second part of this paper we display some examples of application of phonetic /phonological concepts in language teaching. These can be used in first and second language teaching and in language disabilities.
