Περίληψη

The following article presents the results of researches that examine real readers’ responses to literary books. The researches were based on readers’ response theory and were carried out in order to identify the responses of young readers and to find ways they can be used in classrooms for the teaching of literature. The aim of the article is to emphasize one of the most important findings of these researches, that of the importance of book clubs or literature circles. When young readers are given the chance to discuss the books they have read with a minimum of an adult intervention, they comprehend the book better, they learn more about themselves, and how to negotiate their subject position and also how to communicate in a certain setting.
