Περίληψη

It is an often occurring argument that education should adapt to its contextual developments. In recent years, there have been many attempts of restructuring and redesigning several aspects of educational systems through moderate or radical reforms. School management constitutes one of the fields in which changes have occurred. In order to understand the relevant shifts created in the field, we review its fundamental parameters together with the developments that brought about the new conditions in the context of education: the decline of the welfare state, the state’s shift away from its traditional role, globalization, the rise of neoliberalism and the postmodern character of society. This article attempts to approach both the explicit and the latent influences that affect the field of educational management as well as to trace the field’s current orientation.
